A new Aged Care Industry Labour Agreement has been introduced, making it easier for employers to sponsor overseas workers for critical direct care roles. This agreement provides a streamlined pathway for aged care providers to access skilled workers in occupations such as personal care assistant, aged or disabled carer, and nursing support worker.

Eligible workers can be sponsored for the Skills in Demand (subclass 482) visa and may transition to permanent residency through the Employer Nomination Scheme (subclass 186) after just two years of full-time employment. To participate, employers must enter into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with a relevant industry union, ensuring high standards and protections for both employers and workers.
This is a significant opportunity to address workforce shortages while providing a clear and stable migration pathway for qualified carers.
