Important Reminder for Australian PR Visa Holders

Dear PR visa holders,
Please remember that your Permanent Resident (PR) visa includes a 5-year travel facility. This means you can freely leave and re-enter Australia for five years from the date your visa was granted.

If you wish to travel after this 5-year period has expired, you must apply for a Resident Return Visa (RRV) to re-enter Australia as a permanent resident. It’s a common misconception that you “lose” your PR status after five years. In reality, you remain a permanent resident—but without a valid travel facility, you simply won’t be allowed to re-enter Australia.
Important: If you try to re-enter Australia on another visa, such as an ETA or visitor visa, your PR visa may cease by operation of law. This means you could lose your PR status.
Please check the expiry date of your travel facility and apply for an RRV in advance if needed.
