You’ve met the residency requirement, submitted your citizenship application, and finally received the long-awaited Invitation to sit the Australian Citizenship Test.Usually, the test date is scheduled up to 3 months (or even longer) after the invitation.

👉 Good news: you don’t always have to wait that long.

✅ How to bring your citizenship test date forward

Here’s a simple but little-known trick:

1️⃣ Open your Invitation letter and find the section titled “If you cannot attend”. It contains a link to the Department of Home Affairs appointment system.

2️⃣ Go to appointments.homeaffairs.gov.au and log in using:

  • your last name

  • your Client ID

3️⃣ Once inside the booking system, you can reschedule your test appointment.

⚠️ Important:You are allowed to reschedule not only to later dates — but also to EARLIER ones than the date assigned in your Invitation.

🗓️ Pro tip

  • Earlier slots often become available because other applicants cancel or reschedule.

  • If you don’t see a suitable date today, check again tomorrow or the next day.

  • Availability changes frequently, and you may easily grab a spot that has just opened.

✨ By rescheduling your test to an earlier date, you can:

  • pass the test sooner

  • attend the citizenship ceremony earlier

  • get closer to Australian citizenship faster

Save this tip and share it with someone who’s waiting for their citizenship test.
