🔶The list of English language tests accepted for Australian visa purposes extended.

From 7 August 2025, the Department of Home Affairs has expanded the list of English language tests accepted for Australian visa purposes. There are now nine approved tests, up from the previous five.

If you took an English test on or before 6 August 2025, the old rules will continue to apply for certain visas within specific timeframes.

For tests taken on or after 7 August 2025, the Department accepts results from the following tests (undertaken at a secure test centre):

✅Cambridge C1 Advanced Test (C1 Advanced),

✅Canadian English Language Proficiency Index Program General (CELPIP General),

✅International English Language Testing System Academic (IELTS Academic),

✅International English Language Testing System General Training (IELTS General Training),

✅LANGUAGECERT Academic Test,

✅Michigan English Test (MET),

✅Occupational English Test (OET),

ree

Pearson Test of English Academic (PTE Academic),

Test of English as a Foreign Language internet-Based Test (TOEFL iBT).

This change gives applicants more flexibility and ensures consistent scoring across different test providers.

If you are planning to apply for a visa that requires evidence of English language ability, you need to make sure you sit one of the valid tests for your visa type and that you meet the required scores.

Please note that for the Skills in Demand Visa (Subclass 482), the English test requirements will not change until 13 September 2025.

For full details and the list of accepted tests, visit the Department of Home Affairs website.
