Training Visa (Subclass 407) – New Rules from 11 March 2026

  • 1 min read

From 11 March 2026, applicants for the Training visa (subclass 407) can only lodge a valid application after their sponsor has been approved and the nomination has been approved (unless the sponsor is a Commonwealth agency). Previously, these could be lodged at the same time.

This means applicants may need to wait longer before applying. Those in Australia must hold another valid visa while waiting, as a Bridging Visa is only available after a valid application is lodged. Applications submitted too early will be invalid and refunded.

Sponsors should ensure sponsorship and nomination are approved well in advance of the training start date.

These changes aim to ensure genuine training and reduce misuse of temporary visas.

If you are planning to apply, it is important to prepare early. Feel free to contact me for advice.
